How to Avoid Size Problems When Replacing Cross-flow Cooling Tower Fill

One of the most common problems we see in cooling tower fill replacement is surprisingly simple: the new fill specification was chosen before the existing tower was measured carefully.

For a new tower, dimensions are normally defined during engineering. For an older tower, the situation can be very different.

Why the Old Drawing May Not Be Enough

Cooling towers can remain in service for many years. During that time, supports, distribution systems, fill blocks, or other internal components may have been replaced or modified.

As a result, the current installation may not exactly match the original drawing.

Check More Than Width

Customers sometimes focus entirely on width because it is the easiest number to compare.

But we normally confirm several dimensions:
